After exploring Kathmandu's highlights, we decided that it was time to immerse ourselves in authentic Nepalese rural life. We wanted to experience the daily lives of local people. After some searching, we found Nirajan’s beautiful farm in Chhinnamasta. Nirajan was a wonderful host who welcomed us like family. We stayed at his small farm for about a week. Every day was different thanks to the lovely interactions with families and their children from the village nearby. We also enjoyed the company of Nirajan’s sweet animals of which some liked to join us on the field :). Because of the heat, we only worked a few hours in the morning and at the end of the afternoon. During breaks and in the evenings, Nirajan’s deliciously prepared meals and drinks helped us cope with the high temperatures. At night, the temperature dropped a bit, allowing us to sleep well in the simple bed he had prepared for us. We also had plenty of free time, during which Nirajan took us to the village nearby and gave us a tour of the Chhinnamasta Temple. We even celebrated my friend's birthday on the farm with the village children. It was a heartwarming experience to share this celebration together. All in all, our farm experience at Nirajan’s farm was simply unforgettable. It was very special for us that, even in the short time we stayed with him, we were able to make a small impact already. We look forward to staying in touch with Nirajan and to seeing his farm grow.

Manish was a terrific host. He always made sure I was happy, fed, and getting the most of my experience. He took lots of time out of his day and job to spend with me, teaching me the ways of the local culture and about what he does for tiger conservation. It was a fascinating and intimate experience in tiger conservation / human-animal conflict management.
