Our home and farm sit in a quiet rural area surrounded by fields, ponds, and fresh air. We are a small family living together — simple, friendly, and always happy to welcome new people. The heart of our project is to create a self-sustaining organic farm and homestay that connects visitors with nature, local culture, and traditional Nepali farming life. On our farm, we grow organic vegetables, rice, and traditional fruits, and we also have fish farming, buffalo, honeybees, ostriches, and emus. Visitors can learn about daily farm work, local food preparation, and the customs of our Maithili culture. We also have a few friendly pets and farm animals that are part of our daily life — they love meeting new friends too! Our goal is to build a space for cultural exchange, learning, and peaceful living, where everyone feels like family. Our farm is active throughout the year with a mix of organic farming, livestock care, and fish farming. We grow a variety of vegetables, fruits, and rice, and maintain a small honeybee project and buffalo, ostrich, and emu farms. WWOOFers can learn about: Organic vegetable and fruit cultivation Composting and natural fertilizers Caring for buffalo, poultry, and birds Feeding and maintaining fish ponds Beekeeping and honey collection Traditional Nepali and Maithili farming techniques Preparing local organic meals A Typical Day: Mornings usually start around 6:00–7:00 AM with light work such as watering plants, feeding animals, or collecting vegetables. After breakfast, we continue with main farm tasks like planting, cleaning, or helping in the fish pond. Afternoons are more relaxed — volunteers can join in cooking, help around the house, or learn local crafts. Evenings are peaceful, often spent sharing stories, enjoying local food, or walking around the village. We work 4–5 hours per day, and weekends are usually free for rest or visiting nearby places like the Chhinnamasta Temple or local markets. Our goal is to give every visitor a chance to learn, share, and live like family while experiencing real rural Nepal. WWOOFers will stay with our family in a clean and comfortable homestay on the farm, located near the Chhinnamasta Temple. We provide a private or shared room, depending on the number of guests, with a simple bed, clean bedding, mosquito net, fan, and access to a bathroom with water for bathing and laundry. Electricity and mobile charging are available, and the environment is peaceful and surrounded by nature. We serve three fresh meals daily, prepared from our own farm products whenever possible. Meals include traditional Nepali and Maithili dishes — rice, lentils, vegetables, fruits, milk, and sometimes fish or meat (optional). Tea is served in the morning and evening. We eat together as a family, and WWOOFers are welcome to join in cooking, learning local recipes, or sharing their own style of food. We believe meals are a time to connect, exchange culture, and enjoy local flavors. We can also adjust for vegetarian or vegan diets upon request. In our free time, we enjoy music, cooking traditional Nepali and Maithili dishes, gardening, and spending time with our animals. Sometimes we sit together in the evening, play local songs, share stories, and drink tea under the open sky. For visitors, there are many things to enjoy nearby. You can walk or cycle through peaceful villages, visit the Chhinnamasta Temple and other local temples, or join in village festivals and cultural programs. The Koshi River is not far — a great place for short hikes, swimming, and relaxing by the water. We also welcome anyone interested in learning our language, teaching English to local children, or sharing their culture. Every day is simple but full of real experiences and warm local life.

After exploring Kathmandu's highlights, we decided that it was time to immerse ourselves in authentic Nepalese rural life. We wanted to experience the daily lives of local people. After some searching, we found Nirajan’s beautiful farm in Chhinnamasta. Nirajan was a wonderful host who welcomed us like family. We stayed at his small farm for about a week. Every day was different thanks to the lovely interactions with families and their children from the village nearby. We also enjoyed the company of Nirajan’s sweet animals of which some liked to join us on the field :). Because of the heat, we only worked a few hours in the morning and at the end of the afternoon. During breaks and in the evenings, Nirajan’s deliciously prepared meals and drinks helped us cope with the high temperatures. At night, the temperature dropped a bit, allowing us to sleep well in the simple bed he had prepared for us. We also had plenty of free time, during which Nirajan took us to the village nearby and gave us a tour of the Chhinnamasta Temple. We even celebrated my friend's birthday on the farm with the village children. It was a heartwarming experience to share this celebration together. All in all, our farm experience at Nirajan’s farm was simply unforgettable. It was very special for us that, even in the short time we stayed with him, we were able to make a small impact already. We look forward to staying in touch with Nirajan and to seeing his farm grow.
